How to play
Two people get the same prompt. Everyone else picks a winner.
The game
- 1
Make a room
One person creates a game and reads out the four-letter code. Everyone else types it in. You need at least three players.
- 2
Answer your prompts
You get a couple of prompts on your phone. Somebody else has the same one — you’re writing against them, and neither of you knows who until afterwards.
- 3
Vote
The two answers go head to head and everyone else picks the better one. You can’t vote on your own matchup; you just have to watch it happen.
- 4
Win the room
Every vote is points. Take all the votes in a matchup and you get a bonus on top. Later rounds are worth more, so being behind early doesn’t mean much.
Settings the host picks
- Pace
- Timed gives every phase a countdown. Untimed just waits for everyone, so a game can be played in the gaps of a whole day.
- Voting
- One at a time reveals each matchup’s winner before the next opens — better theatre. All at once puts every matchup up together, which is the one to use if people are dipping in and out.
Worth knowing
- Closed the tab by accident? Open the link again — you keep your seat and your score.
- The host can remove someone before the game starts, and can skip past anyone holding things up once it’s running.
- Sound and turn notifications are the two buttons in the top-right corner of a game.
- Answers are capped at 120 characters. Nobody wants to read your essay.
